Changing Face Of Family Accommodation On The Gold Coast

The way in which we take holidays has changed a lot over the years. It used to be that boarding houses were all the rage. Then we moved onto hotels and camp sites, depending on our budget. But, during the last decade, we seem to prefer self-contained apartments. This is particularly true when you look at family accommodation Gold Coast.

Queensland's Gold Coast has long been a top seaside holiday spot. Visitors have been enjoying its charms since the 1950s. In some ways, nothing has changed. We still enjoy local fish and chips on the beach, or a stroll along the prom with an ice-cream in hand!

Self-Contained Resort Apartment

In other ways, everything has changed. Take accommodation in Broadbeach apartments, for example. Those traditional boarding houses and B&Bs have given way to self-contained resort apartments, offering affordable luxury.

You may not know, but the first Gold Coast hotel was Lennons, which became the region's tallest building when it opened in December 1956. After that, hotels started popping up all over the Gold Coast, along with motels, B&Bs, hostels and campsites.

There was something for everyone: posh hotels for the rich, and boarding houses and campsites for the not so wealthy. As far as family accommodation Gold Coast was concerned, it was generally the latter.

Family Accommodation

How things have changed! Now families can enjoy great savings on spacious, self-contained resort apartments, such as the Phoenician Resort in Broadbeach. With a two-bedroom apartment able to accommodate up to six, with two bathrooms, it's a great choice.

Families particularly love the fact that these apartments have fully equipped kitchens - perfect for knocking up quick snacks when the kids are tired and grumpy.

Back in the 50s and 60s, the wealthy would never have considered a self-catering holiday! But now, more and more holidaymakers, from all walks of life, are choosing holiday apartments, preferring the freedom and privacy that they offer.

Peace and Privacy

In fact, many people who may have previously owned or rented luxury holiday homes are also choosing resort apartments for their summer breaks and weekends away.

Accommodation in Broadbeach comprises mainly self-contained apartments, because they do offer many advantages over other accommodation - the main one being space. Even a one-bedroom apartment at the Phoenician Resort includes a fully equipped kitchen and living area.

Just like a hotel, all your linen and towels are included, along with glasses, crockery, cutlery, hair-dryer, iron, washing machine and more.

By choosing quality resorts, such as the AAA 4-Star rated Phoenician, you'll also enjoy the highest quality fixtures and fittings, plus excellent security and entertainment systems.

Close To The Beach

These resorts are conveniently positioned close to the beach, cafes, shops, restaurants, entertainment, and tourist attractions. So, you're in the thick of the action, but you can easily escape to the peace and privacy of your private holiday apartment. You have your own personal space, with the freedom to come and go as you please.

Just like a motel or hotel, your booking includes full use of the resort's fabulous facilities. And even if you are on a budget, you should expect swimming pools, spas, saunas and more, as there's plenty of competition.

You'll find these great apartments on the Gold Coast in various locations, such as Surfers Paradise, Burleigh Heads, Broadbeach, and Mermaid Beach. Apart from Surfers being a little noisy and busy for some of us, all these locations have their charm. My recommendation, however, would always be Broadbeach.

Seaside Charm

First identified as a seaside town in 1934, this was the location of that first hotel, Lennons. Its popularity as a holiday destination has never wavered.

Like most places, it has developed over the years but Broadbeach, unlike some areas of the Gold Coast, has managed to retain its original charm. And somehow it just suits everybody's needs! As far as family accommodation Gold Coast goes, it's the best. It's also the perfect choice for a romantic weekend away, a reunion with friends, or even a business trip.

Broadbeach delivers that true seaside feel, whilst also being home to some of the Gold Coast's best restaurants, plus Jupiter's Casino and the Gold Coast Convention Centre.

Colourful Markets

It's a short stroll to the patrolled beach, Kurrawa Park and the foreshore, with plenty of trendy cafes, chic boutiques and ice-creameries along the way. The Sunday markets in the park are extremely popular, and a must to pick up souvenirs and gifts to take home.

Broadbeach also offers easy access to swimming, boating, fishing and many tours and charters. It's a short drive to the famous theme parks, and 30-40 minutes to the mountain ranges and lush hinterland, where you can explore ancient rainforests and waterfalls.

If your holiday is not complete without a show or event, you're in luck. The Gold Coast hosts activities all year round, from top surfing and golf championships, to music festivals, boat shows and the sensational V8 Supercars. A firm favourite with visitors of all ages is the Australian Outback Spectacular. Your ticket includes meals, souvenirs and amazing entertainment, so it's got to be a must.
